Theme for One World Week 2012 will be 'Bouncing Back'
One World Week is a week of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during the third week in November every year. The theme for this year’s One World Week has been selected: ‘Bouncing Back’ encourages youth groups to look at the factors contributing to young people feeling stressed, and examine how young people also demonstrate resilience in their lives. All information on One World Week 2012 will be available on our website.

Say No to Ageism Week 2012

The Say No to Ageism Week 2012 campaign will run from 4th June to 8th June.
The week will involve public awareness using outdoor advertising in the transport sector and the campaign will focus on the individual again this year, re-utilising and re-affirming the theme “I Say No to Ageism”.
Meeting about the Financial Crisis, 6 June
LYCS and ICON in partnership with Bloom invite you to a Public Meeting on the Financial Crisis. The meeting takes place at 6.45pm on Wednesday 6th June in LYCS Community Creche, Old National School, Lower Rutland St. Dublin 1. The meeting will host both international and local speakers and will be chaired by Vincent Browne of TV3.

Four places remaining for Irish participants: Connecting through Creativity
Mayfield Arts, Newbury House are looking for Participants for a Youth in Action 4.3 training programme; Connecting through creativity
Connecting through Creativity integrates arts methodology across the Youth in action programme to promote integration diverse groups (eg mixed ability groups, inter-generational groups, intercultural groups.)
The objectives are:
- To explore the possibilities of arts to connect diverse groups.
- To explore the most effective use of arts to create space for interaction.
- To present and exchange a wide range of arts tools useful for interaction and integration.
- To explore application of arts methodology across the Youth in Action programme
- To create networking opportunity to develop new programmes for you the youth in Action programme.
The programme includes:
Presentations/ case studies, hands on creative exercises, Reflection and analysis on the role of arts in integration, networking and project development opportunities. Tips and training in writing proposals.
Connecting through creativity will take place in Cork city from 11th June to 17th June with the participation of organizations from Estonia, Greece, Romania and Ireland.

Kerry One World Centre is to host a one-day soccer tournament to highlight and fight racism as well as promoting respect within our different cultural communities.

Teams from Kerry One World Centre, TIRC (Tralee International Resource Centre, IT Tralee and An Garda Síochána will take part in a competition that we hope will become an annual event.
The tournament will be held at the KDL (Kerry District League) pitch at Monavalley, Tralee. First kick-off will be at 12 noon; final whistle at 5.30 p.m. Trophies and medals will be presented after the final match.

8th Africa-Europe Training Course for Youth Organisations,
Applications are now open for the 8th Africa-Europe Training Course for Youth Organisations, that is going to be held from 10 to 20 July 2012 in Mindelo, São Vicente - Cape Verde, in the frame of the 4th African University on Youth and Development.
Aimed to develop the competences of participants and their organisations as civil society actors in the development process and to strengthen their political participation in the context of the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership, the Training Course is organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in the framework of the Joint Management Agreement between the European Commission - EuropeAid Co-operation Office and the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, in collaboration with the Cape Verde Federation of Youth, the Portuguese National Youth Council, the Youth Forum of the Portuguese Speaking Countries, the Pan African Youth Union and the European Youth Forum.
Those interested to participate should contact Jean-Marie international@nyci.ie for details regarding application procedure by Tuesday 5th June. Application deadline is the 10th June.
Other News
European Parliament Declaration on Development Education
On March 12, the European Parliament opened signatures for a written declaration on “Development Education and Active Global Citizenship”. To be adopted, at least half of the MEPs need to sign by June 14.
The declaration asks for reinforcing strategies in development education, awareness raising and active global citizenship at European and national level. CONCORD together with DEEEP have launched a campaign in favor of its adoption. In May the CONCORD DARE Forum held its bi-annual meeting in Strasbourg and will also be present at the European Parliament. 306 MEPs have now signed, with 68 more needed. News from EIL, Global Action Week for Education
On Sunday the 22nd of April EIL Intercultural Learning and the Irish Coalition for the Global Campaign for Education held an event on the streets of Dublin to mark the start of Global Action Week for Education. Global Action Week for Education takes place from 22-28 of April throughout the world to highlight that education is the key to reducing poverty; it’s the best tool to reduce hunger, create political stability and empower women in developing countries.
At the Dublin event, 250 petition signatures were collected in support of a strong focus on education in our Overseas Development Assistance programme. A delegation of EIL members and the Irish Coalition for the Global Campaign for Education will formally present these petition signatures to Minister Joe Costello on the 13th of June.
