Development Education training is available to both paid and voluntary staff working with young people in a non-formal setting. Along with the trainings listed on our site, we can provide tailor made training to your organization.NYCI's Development Education training is designed for youth work practitioners, including youth workers and leaders, development educators, peer educators and youth work trainers.

Title: Conversational Approaches to Development Education

How can we facilitate learners to really engage with global justice issues? How can we create conversations that really facilitate change and learning in our Dev Ed practice? What are the conditions we need to create for the best learning to take place?

These are some of the questions this one-day training seeks to answer. We will introduce and practice a number of different ways in which conversations may be hosted. We will consider when and why these methods can be used.

This one-day event is an introduction to some of the core practices and methods used in Art of Hosting, a presentation of the concepts that underpin it and an exploration of their use in our practice as development educators.

Title: Global Justice in Youth Work – FETAC Level 5

This residential course lasts for Five days and is split over two residentials. Participants will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver quality development education, inspiring the young people with whom you work to act for a more just and equal world. The training is accredited by FETAC and this stand alone module can be used to build on an overall FETAC Level 5 Youth Work Award.

Learning content:

Understanding globalisation and global issues.

Exploring perspectives and values in youth work.

Examining interdependency and action.

Developing facilitation skills relevant to Development Education

 

Designed for: Those with at least one years experience as a youth worker/leader.

Participants must have an interest in global justice issues and be at least 18 years of age. Participation in both residential phases of a course is a pre-requisite.

Title:   Development Education in Youth Work and the National Quality Standards Framework

This training will introduce participants to a step-by-step guide to delivering effective and high quality development education programmes. Based on the “Going Global” resource, it highlights the value of development education to young people in Ireland and globally and shows why youth work settings are ideal for doing development education. It will introduce the core principles of the NQSF and make links between it and a development education approach to youth work.

To demonstrate how an effective development education programme addresses the core principles of the NQSF
To examine what Development Education in Youth Work is

Designed for: This course will suit volunteers and staff currently delivering Youth Work activities and wish to broaden existing programmes.

Title:   Measuring the Impact of Development Education

This training will examine the need to measure the impact of our development education work. It will explore evaluation methods and identify how we can ensure quality in programme delivery with a view to being able to measure changes in attitudes and opinions among the young people we work with.

To identify the purpose of measuring impact
To introduce methods for measuring Impact
To examine the links between programme design, delivery and impact.

Title:   Games from Around the World

This training session is an action packed workshop giving participants an opportunity to increase their repertoire of fun games from around the world and explore how games can be used to raise awareness of a range of issues relevant to young people. It will bring fresh ideas and creative approaches to your work.
