OWW Training
One World Week 2010
"Framing Our World"
A Youth Work resource on the use of images and messages in Development
One World Week: One World Week is a week of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during the third week in November every year. During One World Week young people learn about local and global justice issues and take action to bring about change. Youth groups from all over Ireland take part in activities, organise public events, quizzes and debates, invite guest speakers or have intercultural evenings. Many groups publicly display the work they have done in preparation for One World Week, or lead other people in doing a public action.
About: Images and Messages influence how people think and behave. They affect what we believe and how we act towards each other, including towards people from different parts of the world. This training and the accompanying resource pack aims to help us look beyond the images and messages we receive about the 'Global South', to develop critical thinking skills and to analyse what the reality of development might be.
What: This is a fun packed two hour training that will give you a working knowledge of the resource pack and provide you with ideas for activities to run with your Youth Group. It will encourage you to use Youth Work methods to explore Global Justice issues.
Who: This training is aimed at both staff and volunteers working with young people in a Youth Work setting.
When: OWW takes place from 13th – 21st November 2010. Training is available from September till November.
Booking: There is no cost for attending this training. A minimum of 8 people is required. The training can take place in your Youth centre or community facility. If you would like to host training for you and your colleagues please contact Alan Hayes by email: alan@nyci.ie or by phone: 01-4255932
Book early to reserve the date and time that best suits your group.
