Act Now on 2015 - Deliver Ireland's Aid Promise

Act Now on 2015 is a civil society campaign in Ireland led by over 60 NGOs (including NYCI) to cement the Irish Government’s commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on overseas development aid by 2015. This means just 70 cent in every €100 of the Irish government’s budget should be spent on Official Development Assistance (ODA) which goes to the world’s poorest. Overseas aid represents less than 1% of government expenditure.

Framing Our World - three regional development education sessions in Dublin, Galway and Waterford.

NYCI is running a series of regional development education sessions during September 2010. The one-day sessions will take place in Dublin (9 September), Galway (16 September) and Waterford (21 September).

Each of the regional sessions will look at the theme for this year's One World Week "Images and Messages in Development" in the context of cultural competency and our own perspectives.

Africa Centre Conference: 'The Use of Images and Messages - a Human Rights Issue!'

The Africa Centre (Dublin) is hosting a conference at Dublin Castle on 'The Use of Images and Messages - a Human Rights Issue!' The conference opens with a session from 6pm - 9pm on Wednesday 14th July, and continues on Thursday 15th July from 9.30am - 5pm.

The use of Images and Messages is a very relevant issue given the Dochas Code of Conduct on that, and the theme for NYCI's One World Week in 2010.

The conference promises to develop a lively discussion looking at issues related to human rights, the Code of Conduct and it's implementation as well as including a strong perspective from the Global South. Inputs will be made from key stakeholders including NGOs, Ambassadors, academics and journalists. Creative methods will be used to explore the topic including a drama piece and song on the opening evening. To register please contact the Africa Centre, education@africacentre.ie or go to their site: www.africacentre.ie .
